Lacock has featured in several of the Harry Potter movies. Mostly it is Lacock Abbey that features as Hogwarts. |
Lacock, which was founded in 1232 is the setting for a number of the scenes in the 'Philosophers Stone' and 'The Chamber of Secrets' |
Lacock village has been the venue for many film makers, the popular TV programme |
It is an extremely picturesque village with four streets laid out around a square |
there are no telephone poles or electric streetlights, and it’s kept largely free of traffic thanks to the main visitor car park on the outskirts of the village. |
Quality accommodation and atmospheric eating places make Lacock an ideal base to spend a few days exploring the local area. |
Although there were only a small community of nuns there were considerable numbers involved in the administration, support and running of the Abbey and its estate. |
Lacock village is well worth visiting but does become very crowded in peak visitor months so you should try and avoid those times. |
You could be forgiven for thinking that it is a fossilised village frozen in time but you could not be further form the truth. It is very much a living working community. |
